CRITIQUE HOW-TO'S
1) First and foremost -- I never ask for critiques. Therefore I'm not apt to be very receptive if you give me any. This is not because I feel my art is beyond reproach ('cause it ain't), but rather because I'm not interested in hearing how I could improve a certain image when it's already completed and there's nothing I can do to change it. Yes, everything I post here is as complete as I intend to make it.
2) "But Ren! If all your work is completed and you don't want any critiques on completed works, then all you want is gushing praise." No, not really. I just can't stand when people say a certain detail of an image looks wrong when it's already finished. Dude, I'm not gonna change it just because you think something looks funky. For the love of Jebus, center your criticism around things that would apply to other images as well, not things like "this needs a background" or " the face looks odd" or "i'm not a fan of this type of work" etc. I will not re-do individual pieces. Give me some general knowledge I could use to improve my work overall.
3) Be nice. I'll be much more inclined to take your message into consideration if you speak to me with respect and express yourself intelligently. Assholes will be laughed at and/or ignored.
4) Read the descriptions. Waaaayyyyy too many people open their mouths before reading what I've already said.
5) While you're at it, try to take the time to read some of the other comments left before you (unless there's like 40 or more). Odds are someone has already pointed out any flaws the image may have. Hearing the same critiques for the fourth or fifth time gets really annoying.
6) If your comment has anything to do with your personal preferences contradicting mine, have some common sense and keep it to yourself. It doesn't help me at all. I need general guidelines that most people can relate to, not suggestions to change things because you, as an individual, think that's how they should look. The only instance where I actually give a toss about someone else's personal tastes is if I am doing an image FOR them. This means I'd have to be holding either your character or your money in my hands. Otherwise, hey, you ain't the boss of me.
7) And remember -- the key word is constructive criticism. If it's not helpful, then it's just rude.
Thanks for your time, kids. Play nice.
